The migration from Level 2 processes to Level 3 might uncover some benefits contained within the aplication of BuildingSMART standards such as IFC, IFD, MVD and IDM. KPI such as interoperability, parametricity or contractual support can be benchmarked against the Digital Build Britain guide from the UK released this year 2015.

This guide, as a simple first step proposes enhancing IFC and MVD definitions and proposes validating data for contracts. This very first steps towards the implementation of Level 3 processes can help a manufacturer company to see what steps might be taken after COBie compliance and leveraging the understanding of product data within BIM life-cycle processes.
