BIM uses can be classified according to purposes and sub-purposes. I have generated a list made up of 25 different guidelines definitions that can be used to ascertain which kind of data is needed by manufacturer clients. Once a certain important use is known, this use can be defined for a specific product to a certain LOID. Thus, creating case studies with the colaboration of clients can help manufacturers to validate attributes for BIM product. Once this is done, this attributes can be contrasted against current MVD which are descriptions of processes to a certain phase and stackeholder with the required attributes attached to that process. If the attributes don´t fall behind any MVD means that this MVD which is a subset of an IFC can be leveraged. Thus interoperability (IFC) can be improved for a specific product. As a result manufacturer data could be used within contracts because they will be defined to acertain MVD. Furthermore this MVD can help to improve software supported by this MVD.

Who Am I?

I am a 1st year PhD student from the University of Birmingham (UoB), UK. Before starting the PhD, I achieved a master´s degree at the UoB Department of Civil Engineering, where I finished my dissertation on Building Information Modelling (BIM) : "Level 2 BIM within the UK construction industry: a critical approach for designers". I have a research interest on BIM product data supporting project life-cycle processes.
